Q4 2023 Performance of Top iOS Navigation Apps in the UK
An analysis of the latest Sensor Tower data reveals performance trends for the leading iOS navigation and maps applications in the UK during Q4 2023. Insights show download and active user metrics for the top contenders.
As the year 2023 came to a close, the navigation and maps app category on the iOS platform saw varying performance levels in the United Kingdom. Data compiled by Sensor Tower provides a snapshot of the top applications in this segment.
Google Maps, a staple in digital navigation, maintained a strong user base with weekly active users fluctuating around the 9.5M to 10M mark throughout the quarter. Downloads for the app saw a peak of 91K in late October, with a noticeable dip to around 61K in early December before bouncing back to around 76K by year's end.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic observed a slight decrease in weekly active users, starting at 2.6M and ending the quarter at around 2.5M. Downloads remained consistent, with a high point of approximately 40K in mid-October and a rise to 37K in the final week of December.
The virtual globe explorer, Google Earth, experienced a steady trend in weekly active users, beginning the quarter at 160K and increasing to 157K by Christmas. Downloads showed a similar pattern, with an initial count of approximately 19K and a climb to over 20K in the last week of the quarter.
The innovative location platform, what3words: Navigation & Maps, headquartered in the UK, showed weekly active users peaking at around 95K in mid-October, then tapering off to 89K by the close of December. Download figures also peaked in mid-October at over 19K, with a year-end resurgence to nearly 18K.
Lastly, Citymapper: All Live Transit demonstrated a mixed trend. The app generated revenue throughout the quarter, starting at $3K and dipping to around $2K by the final week. Weekly active users saw a high of 312K in early October, followed by a decline to 234K by the quarter's end. Downloads for Citymapper showed a peak of almost 20K in early October before closing the year at just over 10K.
